You had a Model One
Trezor Safe 3

Trezor · legacy models
The Model One of 2014 was, by Trezor’s account, the world’s first hardware wallet. Since 8 January 2026 Trezor no longer sells it or the Model T. Do they still work? Yes. Should you upgrade? That depends.

Short answer
Not urgently: both receive critical security updates until at least 2036. But neither has a secure element, so someone with the device in hand and the right equipment can extract your encrypted recovery phrase. Use a passphrase, or move to the Safe 3 (the One’s successor) or the Safe 5 (the T’s successor).

Support
Trezor promises critical security updates until at least 2036 and basic maintenance until at least 2031. The Model T also keeps receiving new coins until at least 2031. After that the devices keep working, but Trezor recommends moving on.
Some coins have already gone: in February 2025 Trezor removed Dash, Bitcoin Gold, DigiByte, Namecoin and Vertcoin from Suite for both models. Trezor also says it is unsure whether the Model One’s limited hardware can handle future post-quantum standards.
The weak spot
In 2020 Kraken Security Labs showed that someone holding a Model One or Model T, with the right kit, could pull the encrypted recovery phrase from its chip in roughly fifteen minutes. A firmware update cannot change that: it is in the hardware.
Trezor’s answer is the passphrase, an extra word that is never stored on the device. Without it, an extracted phrase is useless to a thief. Still using an older model without one? Set it up, or move to a Safe with a secure element.
Upgrading
The safest upgrade uses a brand-new recovery phrase, so it no longer matters whether the old one was ever exposed.
The Safe 3 replaces the One, the Safe 5 replaces the T. Order straight from Trezor.
Set up the Safe with a fresh recovery phrase. Do not reuse your old words.
Connect the old Trezor, choose Send and move everything to addresses on the new Safe, small amount first.
Once everything has arrived, wipe the old Trezor in Suite and destroy the old recovery phrase.

Against remote attacks, yes: keys stay on the device and you approve everything yourself. It has no secure element, though, so anyone who physically gets hold of it can extract the encrypted recovery phrase. A passphrase protects against that.
Not from Trezor’s shop: since 8 January 2026 it sells only the Safe range. Resellers may still have stock for a while. Never buy a second-hand one, as you cannot know who has seen its recovery phrase.
The Model One has a small monochrome screen with two buttons and micro-USB; the Model T has a colour touchscreen and USB-C. The T supports more coins, such as Cardano and Solana. Neither has a secure element.
According to Trezor, Cardano, Solana and Monero among others. In addition, Dash, Bitcoin Gold, DigiByte, Namecoin and Vertcoin were removed from Trezor Suite for the Model One and Model T in February 2025.
We found no standing trade-in scheme. Trezor states that it is not currently running any long-term official promotion.
