€100 from euro balance in advanced trading, at 17:02 CEST. Total cost = trading fee + markup + the order-book price gap against the market price, which is why it can differ from the platform’s own rate. Rank 1 is where you get the most crypto. Kraken does not publish its fees in the simple app, so here we compare its advanced trading view, where the fees are public.

Two ways to buy, two price lists

Kraken gives you one account and two very different ways to buy.

Instant Buy in the Kraken app is the quick option. Kraken charges 1% on instant and recurring buys and 1.5% on a custom order where you set the price. On top of that, the price you see includes a spread: the gap between the market rate and the rate you get. Kraken calculates it before each order. It varies with the coin, the order size, the payment method and market conditions, and Kraken may keep any spread surplus. No percentage is published for it.

Kraken Pro is the trading platform with an order book. There is no Instant Buy spread; you pay a fixed fee per order, based on your trading volume over the last 30 days, measured in US dollars:

30-day volumeMakerTaker
Up to $2,5000.40%0.80%
Above $2,5000.30%0.60%
Above $10,0000.22%0.38%

A market order takes liquidity from the order book, so it pays the taker fee. A limit order that waits in the book pays the lower maker fee when it fills.

How we compare Kraken

Because the Instant Buy spread is not published, we cannot calculate what the app really costs. For Kraken we therefore simulate a market order on Kraken Pro: the 0.80% taker fee plus the actual prices in Kraken's order book. On €100 that means €0.80 in fees plus whatever the spread costs at that moment, which the table above shows per coin.

Depositing and withdrawing euros

MethodFeeMinimum
SEPA or SEPA Instant depositFree€1
Debit card deposit3.75% + €0.25€10
PayPal depositProcessing fee shown before you confirm€1
SEPA withdrawal€1€2
SEPA Instant withdrawal€1, or €0.90 via one provider€2 or €3

SEPA Instant deposits usually arrive within moments; standard SEPA can take up to three working days. If you fund your account by card or PayPal, withdrawals can be held for 72 hours.

Kraken does not publish a price for buying crypto directly with a card, so in our comparison Kraken appears without a figure when you choose "card". With "euro balance", we assume the money is already in your account.

Licence and protection

Kraken's EU business runs from Ireland. Payward Europe Solutions Limited has held a MiCA licence from the Central Bank of Ireland since 25 June 2025, and ESMA's register shows it passported to all 30 EEA countries. Kraken's own licensing page lists the same 30 countries. Euro balances sit with Payward Ireland Limited, an e-money institution, rather than with the crypto business.

Kraken publishes a proof of reserves checked by an independent auditor. For the snapshot of 30 June 2026 it reported reserves of 102.9% for bitcoin and 100.5% for ether; euro balances are not part of that check. Some tokens cannot be deposited or traded from the EEA, and Opt-In Rewards are limited to bitcoin there. See how Kraken's licence compares on our MiCA-licensed exchanges page.

Who Kraken suits

The two halves of Kraken suit different habits. Instant Buy is simple, but you only see the full price per order. Kraken Pro takes a little more effort, publishes every rate, and becomes cheaper as your 30-day volume grows. Whether Kraken Pro beats other platforms for a given purchase depends on the coin and its order book; compare live for bitcoin, solana or any other coin in the comparison.

Questions about Kraken

How much are Kraken fees?

Instant Buy in the Kraken app charges 1% per purchase (1.5% for an order at a price you set), and the price you see includes a spread. On Kraken Pro you pay 0.80% as a taker and 0.40% as a maker while your 30-day volume is below $2,500, with lower rates above that.

Does Kraken charge for SEPA deposits?

No. SEPA and SEPA Instant deposits in euros are free, from €1. A debit card deposit costs 3.75% plus €0.25, and PayPal charges a processing fee that Kraken shows before you confirm.

How much does it cost to withdraw euros from Kraken?

A SEPA or SEPA Instant withdrawal costs €1, with a minimum of €2. One of Kraken's SEPA Instant providers charges €0.90 with a minimum of €3. After a card or PayPal deposit, withdrawals can be on hold for 72 hours.

Is Kraken regulated in the EU?

Yes. Payward Europe Solutions Limited, trading as Kraken, has held a MiCA licence from the Central Bank of Ireland since 25 June 2025. Euro balances are handled by Payward Ireland Limited, an e-money institution supervised by the same central bank.

Is Kraken available in my country?

Kraken lists all 30 EEA countries as covered by its Irish licences: the 27 EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Some tokens and earn products are not available to EEA customers.

What is Kraken Pro?

Kraken Pro is Kraken's trading platform with an order book, charts and limit orders, using the same account as the Kraken app. Instead of the Instant Buy fee and spread, you pay a published maker or taker fee that falls as your 30-day trading volume rises.
